Yeah I updated through this long route though I had downloaded 8.04. I needed a CD for burning it & I was too lazy to go to market and get on.
Ok, Now I have a problem with language switching, the traditional Alt+Alt combination is not working form. I tried by re-configuring languages, but invain.

oops, my previous post - found the problem: there is no such thing - “us” variant of “us” layout. Leaving variant blank for us layout resolved everything.

But it took me couple of hours to figure that out…

Still curious: in xubuntu /etc/X11/xorg.conf seems to recognize either keyboard toggle option or keyboard variant:

XkbLayout us,ru
XkbOptions grp:alts_toggle

works (I can switch layouts)

XkbLayout us,ru
XkbVariant us,winkeys

works (I can see correct variant in keyboard settings window)

XkbLayout us,ru
XkbVariant us,winkeys
XkbOptions grp:alts_toggle

does not work (cannot switch layouts but can see variant in keybosrd settings).

All I need is winkey variant or russian keyboard, cannot get it in xubuntu…

Any suggestions?

Sajid yes you can upgrade from 7.04 by first upgrading to 7.10.

And why is editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf not considered an option? You can just easily add the same line there and won’t have to bother with any autostart items…

Something to watch out for.

My wife spent ages getting GCstar setup with our videos and games. It looked great. When the data was moved to the server from the laptop, all the images became unlinked. Moving the data back to the laptop where my wife created it didn’t work. All the work was lost.

Also, if accessed from a different account, the image links didn’t work as paths were different.

I have not tried the latest version to see if this is still a problem.

I did take the time to write to the author about this.
